I have a friend that told me she owns a dvd to dvd recorder. she uses it to copy rented dvds. she says it works and there are not problems. however I no longer talk to her and I never found out what dvd recorder she owns. anyone out there have an idea?

She must know a trick, becasue the newer DVD recorders all have detectors on them. Even when I'm just trying to convert my kids VHSs to DVD, that's not illegal, it's for our own use, but it still won't let me. What you are asking IS illegal. Why do something like that, get a job and pay for it.

you can buy a dvd combo drive for your computer.
it is both a reader and a burner for both dvds and cdrs.
you can both copy from a dvd disc and even burn your own.

Lots of PCs and laptops have that technology now and there are too many brands to name, although personally, I like RecordNow! Plus. Just be careful about copyright laws and the like and you should be fine.
