ok a little help where on a dogde shadow, my brother told me to call Auto Zone but hey my son says it's the voltage regulator still talking about the alternator and battery. My brothers had to go to work, but my son thinks its the voltage regulater

Easy, SInce the Regulator is built into the alternator, remove it and go to Autozone or any parts shop they will test it...

Take a multimeter and place it across the terminals of your battery. With the engine running you should have 13.5V on the meter. Turn the engine off, test again, this time you should have 12.0V. If not you may have a dead cell on the battery. If you don't have the 13.5 or at least very close then you have a problem with the alternator or the voltage regulator.

It's inside the alternator, you can replace it seperately or buy a whole new alternator which most people do.
