My roomate is so sensitive its hard to be myself around her
because I like to joke around and can be sarcastic in a funny way at times. She is so sensitive and nice that she is naive and crazy at times. One night I didnt come home and stayed at a friends house she got so worried she almost called the police and went door to door looking for me at 8am asking questions. The other day she waited 4 hours for me to get back to the apartment to open the door of our entrance because she was afraid of what the nieghbor would say if she used thier entrance. It is so frustrating I try not to be around her because of the way she is. What do I do?

i went through this same thing with my ex roomate. she was pycho and frankly couldnt handle the real world. you should sit her down or write out the boundaries of your relationship. tell her that you pay this and that and that is where your relationship lies. you have a right to have your own life without how she's going to react to it. lay down the law and FAST!! be forward and dont be wishy washy! she needs a dose of reality. tell her this is her life, and this is your life..leave it at that.

Ive read what the other have put here, and dont help her with anything. its her problem and she has to deal with it. if you try helping her, she will get dependent on you moreso than she is now. you have to draw the line. im sure you dont want to have this person in your life forever say if you get married and have kids. let her live her life however hard it is for her. helping her isnt going to make her stronger, it will just make her more dependent. you sound strong and you know who you are, dont let someone like this bring you down. tough love is good for these people, so is councelling.

I'm not wanting this to come across as sarcastic, but in a certain way, look at her as if she was your mom. Give her a level of respect for caring about you, and let her know when you'll be out all night. Call her or leave a note saying, "be home at midnight" Give her a little time and piece of mind. As far as the whole jokster thing... if she really knows you, she should know you are just joking around- UNLESS you're commenting on her looks, weight... anything that may be a touchy subject for her.

Rooming with someone can be hard, but good luck! Hope this helps!

It is really simple to handle such characters. They act so b'cuz they might have had a bad experience in the past & want that to not happen again, the other reason might be that she is possessive on her own little things and friends. They build a wall around them making none to enter in their personal surrounding. Go with them in their drive. Move gentle with them and u can easily break the wall they have built, then make them understand the reality of life.
It is hard task but with patience u can do it.

First I'd ask her if you are just a roommate or good friends. If your just roommates tell her to keep her distance and mind her own buisness, she's not your mother. If you're good friends then she needs to know that you need boundries and you don't need her to be so worried about you all the time. Although, it is good to have someone care about you it's not good to have someone worry so much.

This person is ..not right... I would suggest getting away from this person by eather moving out or kicking them out (depends who is the renter)
This person is only going to drag you down from your normal life. Sure, you may like or even love this person, but you can't let then control your life because of there problem.

Good Luck.

Maybe you could talk to her about it. Tell her not to worry so much and that it bothers you when she freaks out on you. You've got nothing to lose.

Make an agreement such as "I promise to put forth effort to make sure i consider your feelings if you promise to put forth effort to forgive me if i mess up" as long as you put effort into your end of the deal you deserve forgivness if you mess up. reach a compromise.
