I am not very much interested in the opinion of religious leaders. The reason I do not believe in a god is the same that I do not believe in anything supernatural, be it a flying spaghetti monster or santa claus or superman. I have no reason to believe, that's all.
As for the definition of god, it seems to me that an "all-powerful, omnipresent, all-knowing creator entity-spirit-whatever" comes close, but if you have a different definition, go ahead and tell us. As long as it has a supernatural sound to it you won't newly convince anyone.

All in all, and with respect for all faiths, that's my conception that folk are run off by ability of those who attempt to emphasize their personal beliefs onto others. I actually have self assurance a lot of it has to do with desirous to be correct each of the time, therefore, the hash marks and the ulterior motives! :-) the actuality is now no longer major, yet desirous to be correct is. i have self assurance each body is truthful and doing the finest they know how at any given second of their lives, even if or not they think about themselves to be an atheist or a christian, or any of the different faiths. we are all in the technique of attending to understand. What we've self assurance to be real at present, will replace over the years. replace is everlasting. At one time I adhered to a inflexible conception equipment. That has replaced completely over the years and that i have received freedom from it, because of journey and also palms on living. :-) so a procedures as atheists are in contact, i have self assurance that they have got had their noses rubbed in the dirt adequate about God from those that extremely misrepresent God. I also experienced some thing of this nature as a tender infant and it took me a number of years to heal from it. I actually have got here across that Loving each body works. :-) Peace.

Your definition of God and/or the universe may not be acceptable to anyone else. The matter has been debated for thousands of centuries, perhaps even millions of millenia. To believe that you know the only acceptable definition of God and/or the universe is not simply incredibly arrogant -- it is extremely stupid.

If you know the definition, and I truly believe no one has IT,
As far as either the Universe or "God" are concerned. Not the theologians, nor the scientists . . By FAR, as of YET.
But if you say YOU KNOW, then say it for yourself and keep it, if you'd wish - as your cornerstone.
Proselytizing about, God or anything else for that matter - which has not yet been fully proven as UNDENIABLE evidence - chafes, grates upon the ear of any human being. Human beings, inherently, innately, LOVE freedom. They also will fight like wolverines when cornered, if any other human being tells them - what the ONE thing IS, that is right, or True. We, humans have a tendency, often reshaped by religion to doubt our original opinions. Whatever these may be.
For example, dealing with religion, or a philosophy turned by some into a religion, If I were to say to you that I as a Buddhist knew for certain the right path to spiritual salvation, you'd challenge me in return with your opinion, wouldn't you?
You'd tell me, to perhaps go Find God, because I absolutely Needed To?
Get my gist?
What you chose to believe is your business alone . . to press it on to others who may disagree with you, I would consider it to be more, a presumptuous harassment.
Secularly, what if I were to tell you that I KNEW that the MOST Delicious pie in the world was undeniably : Boston Cream Pie and you responded to me resentfully because of my presumption - that you did not even like Pie, that you liked Cake a la mode.
Get the picture?
We all have the right to choose what seems most applicable to what, who we are.
Once religion begins to interfere with that Basic concept of human FREEDOM, the universe, (to use a distant euphemism), will vehemently hit THE Fan!
What is an insanity is to say positively, that YOU
KNOW the "definitions". NO ONE DOES!!!
And it is very sane to have doubts - this is our human, inalienable prerogative!
Allow evidence, total and undeniable evidence to surface, before jumping on to the band wagon of any supposedly, allegedly, "TRUE" thing, just because you've deemed it so!
It may just be a crutch of yours . . or you may be premature to judge, and say you Know. For their own valid reasons to them - Others may entirely disagree with You.
Live and let live!!!
What is so wrong with that?
Must we all be held by a short leash, just because ONE person (thinks) to KNOW?
NO!
I do not mean to come off as offensive or vulgar . . but when it comes to anyone telling me they KNOW and I don't - and there is no proof of issue, as of yet, I, a human being, respectful of the Basic concept of FREEDOM, call it "free choice" if applicable, will begin to fume, or devour an entire bakery of Boston Cream Pies in aggravation, or just as a relief valve, change to cake a la mode.
But ALL of these, I may do, Are My CHOICE!

No, the only way to believe in something that does not exists, by the rules of what does exist and what doesn't, is to suspend reason and accept it on faith. Basically you believe in god, because you wish he existed. It's an emotional need.

I am an atheist because I don't believe in deities and the word atheist describes this state of disbelief. It has nothing to do with what religious leaders say. I don't believe in deities because no argument or evidence presented to me in support of their existence has been convincing.
1. Biology adequately describes life and emotions without appealing to mystical invisible dieties
2. Astronomy adequately describes the formation of stars/planets/universe/etc without appealing to mystical invisible dieties
3. Geology adequately describes the evolution of the Earth, land formations, etc without appealing to mystical invisible dieties
4. Psychology describes the human psyche better than appealing to mystical invisible dieties
5. Appealing to mystical invisible dieties is an appeal to ignorance
6. There's no physical evidence for the existence of mystical invisible dieties
7. A myriad of mystical invisible dieties have been posited by emphatically superstitious societies and have been proven to be products of overly active imaginations (today's religion is tomorrow's myth) and ignorance.
8. Believing in mystical invisible dieties seems to become quite absurd when those who posit the mystical invisible dieties begin explaining why and how they exist in the face of contradictory physical evidence.
9. As scientific knowledge increases, the role of the mystical invisible dieties oddly gets pushed further and further back.
10. Mystical invisible dieties are mystical invisible dieties (ie can never be found by empirical methods)

it would be insane to say the universe doesn't exist! God is another question.
I am an atheist because I have thought, read and learned *more* than I did when I believed in God.

God is irrelevant to the creation or functioning of the universe and has little to nothing to do with the affairs of man other than the belief in one messing up their relationships.

I say to each their own. Everyone has their own beliefs and you can't, and shouldn't try to change theirs. I don't like when people criticise me for being Catholic, and I don't judge the non-religious people.
