I am pregnant and starving all the time but know the importance of a healthy diet whilst pregnant. Does anyone have any ideas for healthy snacks? I am fed up of fruit and nuts!

I am having the same problem.
I am going to get a smoothie maker and take a couple of bottles of that to work to get my 5 a day.

A lot of the time I think I am hungry but I am actually thirsty so make sure you are drinking plenty.

How about:

Snack-a-jacks.
Cutting up some veg, like celery and carrot and have it with a low fat dip
Yoghurt (but not with the carrots!!).
Cereal (get plenty of milk that way)
Sugar free Jelly
Brown toast and jam (not too much butter though)
Tea cakes

Protein is a great choice for a snack because it is the building block for every cell. It also helps many moms when they are feeling fatigued or even nauseated. Some moms go for fiber to help decrease some of the more common but uncomfortable symptoms of pregnancy like constipation. There are plenty of ways to spend the extra calories. Here are some of my favorite snack combinations:

Crackers and cheese. This is a great way to get some protein and fiber. I loved being able to eat a few slices of cheese with some nice whole grain crackers. It was also fun to try lots of different crackers, even trying some of the newer version of old favorites that have less fat.

Nuts. A bag full of nuts was always handy to have around and it did not require preparation or refrigeration. There were times in pregnancy I had specific cravings, like almonds or pecans, but usually I could eat almost any type of nut available. These are great protein powerhouses.

Fresh fruit. Every morning you could grab an extra piece of fruit for your desk. An apple, banana or orange requires very little thought or preparation. I am fond of the mandarin oranges. Now you can find fruit cups almost every where in the grab and go sections of stores.

Hard boiled eggs. These are compact snacks to carry with you, but do require a fridge. If you like these, they can be an easy way to increase your protein. Some moms I know also swear by their ability to quell morning sickness.

Dips and sticks. Carrot sticks and celery are great. But today we often use broccoli and other veggies with dips. Try bean dips, humus and other fun sauces on your vegetables.

You can fix a lot of different foods. You don't have to stick to fruit and nuts, you can eat fish, eggs, red meats, etc. things that are high in protein are good for the baby. I to am pregnant and that's what I do. I have a steak at least once a week, but make sure that it is cooked well-done, or else you could get sick.

Just eat whatever you have a knack for.... just in moderation. Eat the same way you ate before... just add more veggies and fruit to it. If you like a little ice cream.... cut the ice cream down from a cup to a 1/2 cup and add strawberries and kiwi. Instead a eating a piece of chicken, tear it up and throw it into a small salad... If you like cheese and crackers.... put some cheese on a celery stick.... that kinda stuff.

Every couple of days, I cut sticks of cucmber, carrots, and cheese. It keeps well in sealed tubs in the fridge and you can have them with dips or with crispbreads or biscuits if you fancy something more filling. I also ate a lot of 'snak a jack' type things. Rice cakes and rivita minis were always good. They have more flavour and you don't have to do anyhting but open the bag!

I was going to say dried apricots, they are yummy and full of iron, but you are bored of fruit and nuts! I used to have a bowl of Special K when i was feeling peckish, or a nice yogurt.

Have you heard of "What to expect" book series? I've found them the best companion for expecting parents. It has been written by ladies. So, the information is pretty good. For now, "What to expect when you're expecting" is the right book for you.
