Limewire or any other P2P [Peer to Peer] program. I wouldn't do it though because free music downloading is illegal and if your caught doing it you could pay a serious fine. They can trick you into downloading something that simply tracks you IP Address and basically they know where you are and the RIAA [Recording Industry Association of America] can sue you. It's up to you if you want to do it, but you have been forewarned of possible consequences.

With an Apple product you can only download from the Apple store. Apple is currently working on a way to enable down loading from other media types and other media files. There web site may give you more specific info.

ipods play mp3s which are the most popular codec for music files. other codecs need to be converted to AAC first before being loaded onto the ipod. limewire is alright but not great, soulseek is better for finding rare and unusual underground music and peer2peer software (azureus/utorrent/bitlord) will allow you to download enormous volumes of music in mp3 format. use isohunt or piratebay to search for the torrents.
alternatively, respect the artists and pay for their music through sites like itunes or tunetribe.

http://www.limewire.com/ is the most used free file sharing site. make sure you have anti virus running before swapping any files. the free edition of avg available from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ does a good job. once you have installed limewire do a search for limewire pro. then install this and delete the original. pro is faster.

I would say www.limewire.com however, my computer always gets screwed up because there are virus' out their, to be safe I now use www.mp3search.ru it's safe and its only 10.cents a song.
