Other than religious reasons, what factors are at work when couples keep having more children?

We have 3 children, I love babies, I know I want 1 more, but I am not sure if I will want to stop there. I just love watching my kids play and have fun and seeing them grow is exciting and sad all at the same time, my oldest is 11 and then 4 and 10 months. I just love children and the love between a mom and a child is something to be cherished. Its a feeling I never want to be without. I am not positive we will have even one more, but I would like to, I am an only child and when my mother goes, I will have noone but my children and my husband, I want family around me my whole life. In response to the "welfare mothers" comment, my husband and I both work 40 hours + a week, and we get no assistance, I will not have babies I can't afford to take care of. College on the other hand, I'm hoping they get some good scholarships so they don't run me in the poor house there, but I will send them all and I will pay for it, no matter what it costs. Just because I want a large family doesn't mean I expect others to pay for it. Not everyone in this world is out to get things for nothing. And I don't like that assumption made of this question it was rude.

Sometimes if people come from a large family themselves, they want that same kind of family when they are able to have kids. I come from a small family and I am the only one of my siblings to have kids. I have two, and that's enough for me. There are a few large families in my neighborhood and they seem to enjoy each other and spread the love around. I feel that if you can afford to have a large family then do it. If you cannot afford to, then don't!

Families are the closest networking system some people have. In that case more, is not only merrier, but comforting to some. The dynamics of a large family bring lots of personalities together, and that close network is comforting to some. People who feel the need for large families, feel a need to be surrounded by people they can love and trust.

I wouldn't use the word "couples", I would use the term "welfare mothers".
