How is a thumb vote a legitimate reply?

John as many times as people repeat the same "tired " questions why not keep my same replies?

Yes. They should add a 'finger up' response to the thumbs down one. I would give one to John...for not answering the question.

I don't really pay much attention to the thumb voting but you have a good question. I think for some it can seem like a green light to continue labeling others rather than carry on with their own independent opinion. Maybe that opinion supports another answerers maybe it doesn't. I think it's something worth thinking about, however, so thanks for bringing it up.

I just ignore that. In fact, in response to some questions I know I have got it right if I get a lot of thumbs down. This is because a lot of questions just want one answer and attract those who think alike.

I don't pay any attention to the thumbs. It doesn't matter if an answer is well thought out people thumbs down anything that doesn't agree with their political ideology.

I am not sure that thumb voting impacts the dialog one way or the other. Thumb voting is not nearly as virulent as point-gaming or trolling.
