Bike week in Daytona Beach just ended. It is wonderfull to see all the bikers. They come together for one purpose, to ride and have a good time Regardless of race , culture , beliefs , they are one united group when they ride. Now I see in the paper that the black community wants to have their own bike week. Why? They come here during bike week and hang out just like any other biker. There is an area by Bethune Cookman College that plans events specifically for black bikers, that even white bikers go to. So who is causing segregation here?? Soon it will be black college reunion, and to tell the truth, that has gotten out of hand. It was originally for black professionals who came with their familes to have a good time. Now , the underage ( mostly locals) are ruining it for those that once enjoyed it. I have nothing against it, believe me, but why can't we just enjoy one spring break and one bike week without drawing attention to color.

I agree. It seems that blacks segregate themselves, then blame it on the Big Bad White Wolf. Under the premise of doing away with segregation, they segregate more.

You can see this at most public functions. The blacks congregate together. Not at the request of the whites, but at their own volition. I am not predjudice. I am realistic. I am also not grouping ALL blacks into this. But the vast majority of blacks still think that the whites OWE them something for slavery. They are free to do as they please, Live where they want and get an education at a University of their choice. The debt paying should be over. The people that are alive today were not enslaved. Their ancestors were. My heritage should also entitle me to special treatment if this is the case. My ancestors were forced to work long hours in bad conditions to make the rich even richer.

Enough preaching. Have a great day.

There has been a black bike week in SC for a very long time. Black people will at times keep to ourselves , and it only takes one time to be somewhere you're not welcome to understand. Why chance dealing with ignorant folks when I can be with my own people and not have to worry about being called out of my name? Its hard for some white people to get it, but how many times do you go some place where you're the only white person? I'm talking about work, school, the grocery store. It happens to me everyday, so sometimes I would rather be around other black people.

I do think its time for some of these organizations to couple up. No more black bikers...maybe in 1960 or even 1980 but not anymore...let it get absorbed by the local all inclusive groups.

I really don't think they are actively trying to segragate...I'm sure all the groups you've mentioned were started during Jim Crow and just carries on as tradition, but inorder to build a new tradition of America for Americans then these ethnic based organizations need to disband.

Is Daytona Beach in America? Seriously It is good for business, do you know how many people would be out of work if America was color blind?

I fail to see the problem here. Shouldn't this be seen as a GOOD thing in that humans won't have to endure contact with them?
