It looks like you should start worrying about who your friends really are. If they are that interested in the Protocols and they have not explained to you what it is about, beware! Perhaps what it's all about is that they intend you to become some sort of antisemitic nutter like themselves. Unless you and they are Jews, and they just want to show you what racialist nutters their enemies can be. But if you're jewish, then it's surprising you haven't heard about the book before, since it provided the propaganda "justification" for Jewish persecutions in both Russia, Germany and elsewhere.
The work was written around the end of the 19th century and published in Russian. It purports to reveal a Jewish conspiracy to take over the world by spreading subversive ideas ranging from liberal democracy to marxism and anarchism, so established governments like the Tsar's would fall and be replaced by regimes in which the Jews would be pulling all the strings from behind the scenes. In democracies the appearance of a free press would delude the masses into thinking they had freedom, but the press would really be in the hands of "international Jewish financiers" and would be secretly dancing to their tune to keep the people slaves of materialism. Pornography and scepticism would be spread to undermine Christian values.
Many people believed the book in Russia, where anti-Jewish pogroms organized by Tsarists forced many Jews into exile or flight to the States. After the Russian Revolution, the extreme Right in Europe used the book to whip up antisemitism in the West. The Nazis loved it and published numerous editions of it, and that helps explain why so many people in Germany remained indifferent to the rounding up of the Jews and their transfer to the camps.

The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is a literary forgery describing a Jewish plot to take over the world and was created by the Russian secret police toward the end of the 19th century in order to discredit the Jewish community.
I would strongly recommend you and your friends read "The Plot" the final work by the great comic book creator Will Eisner, which tells how the forgery was created, why it was created and how it continues to be used as a tool of anti-semitic propaganda--and all in graphic novel form!

It is believed to have been made up by the Russian autthorites at the beginning of the 20th century as propoganda to stir up an anti Jewish feeling in the Russia.

Propaganda piece created by the czarist -era secret police in Russia that purports to detail the extent of the Jewish plans to dominate the world. Despite being proven to be a fraudlent work, it forms the basis of pretty much every anti-semitic conspiracy theory known. Why, fer krissakes, would your friends be urging you to read this hatemongering crap?

If you read a book like this, understand that it is pure propoganda designed to foster hatred against the Jewish community. This kind of prejudice and misinformation helped create the Holocaust, leading to the death of six million Jews. Not sure who your 'friends' are, but I encourage you to challenge and refute their beliefs.

Excellent work, keep in mind that it is not true. It is blatant propaganda. You may also want to ensure that your friends are aware of this-or seek new friends if theyre convinced.
