With a matte clear coat to protect the wood from the steam generated by the sauna. The rest of the unit will be supported by each opposing wall and thus have a propensity to remain square, but the door is on hinges and needs to seal perfectly without warping from moisture. Also if the unit is oudoors the same applies from weather.

Check with the manufacturer of the sauna. There should be an 800 number you can call. He will be able to give you the best advise regarding what you should do as far as painting and what to use if you do.

do you mean varnish it, if so a boat varnish will be a good option . i use a boat varnish as a seal on my wooden garden bench it only needs re-coating about every five years.if you think how good a boat varnish must be , makes sense.
