Whatever you do, don't put "because I get summers off"! You wanted to get into teaching because as a young person growing up, you had the benefit of great people who helped become the person that you are today. Some of those people were teachers. These people took a special interest in you and helped you in your academic and social growth. Now you want to pass that on to todays generation of students in the hope that one day someone says that about you.
How's that?

I think that the author of this article should not be condemed for not wanting to play the dog & pony show. The person probably does have reasons for teaching. However, what your reasons are for teaching and what reasons you think they want you to put on an application are two totally different things.
For example:
I like to teach. Why? I like to talk and I like to be off when my kids are.
however
On my teacher application I put something about wanting to guide the next generations into a more technological and social world so they can be better citizens. Do I believe I am? Sure. Is it the reason why I picked teaching? No. But I sure was not going to put on an application that I wanted to teach because I wanted summers off.

First brainstorm why you think you want to have this profession. I think you will be amazed at how many great ideas you have yourself. Ask yourself what qualities you have that will make you a good teacher. Here are some things to think about:
-your relationships with kids
-your attitude towards learning
-how people relate to you
-qualities you have (patience, good listener, intuitive, etc.)
-were you inspired by someone?
-why you would want to spend your days doing this. What is the attraction?
-why do you think you would be good at this job?
You have all the answers, it just takes time to think about it and put it into words. Good Luck

This should not be a problem for you if you had teaching in your heart. I might think twice before filling out the application. Be sure this is what you really want to do.

We don't know your reason for selecting teaching as a profession. I'm kind of wondering if you're suited for teaching if you don't know why you're doing it.

Hopefully you asked yourself this question before you decided on this path. Whatever that answer is should be incorporated into your response. Good luck!

if you are applying to be a teacher there must be a reason....don't put the reasons other people give, put your reason. you want to be hired right? be honest. teachers are role models, and you're starting out by lying.
