3 Cats. 2 female; 1 is 4 years old & the other is just over 1 year. My other cat is a male and he is 3 years old.
Cats are quite loyal and they are good for your health as well... It has been proven that petting a cat will lower your blood pressure. Personally I believe it really works. When I get really angry or have had a horrible day I come home and pick up on of my little felines and I am instantly in a better mood.
Unless you decided to have a strictly outdoor cat then you are going to have to get a litter box as well... Those can get quite stinky if you do not keep up on cleaning them. If it becomes too dirty your cat might just decided to piss on your couch or something. Also.. if you live somewhere where there are scents of other animals your friendly and lovable feline might just decide to "mark it's territory" and piss somewhere to make it know that it is their turf now.
Also back to the litter box subject... If you decide to get a cat and litter box train them, just remember that its going to take a little time... rather like potty training a child. Also, from my own personal experience there is an all natural cat litter called Feline Pine and it is the one true god of all kitty litter... This stuff is semi-expensive, but when you take into consideration that one bag will last you about one month and that after wards you can use the pine dust from it for fertilizer for a garden or grass, that is one more household expense that it will cut...

Hello I have 13 cats, all strays they came to visit they just never left. I also have 6 dogs, 2 goats, 2 hens and roosters, 2 rabbits, and 1 guinea pig. No I don't have a farm I just liver on 4 acres and most of these are rescues I didn't just go out and buy all of them. But I can afford to care for them, and I have fallen in love with all of them, so I will keep them all forever. P.S. They have all since been spayed and neutered so that I don't end up with any more "children" to love.

Have 1 dog (lab/husky mix) and 2 adult female cats (1 Tuxedo Shorthair & 1 Egyptian Mau mix).
The Egyptian Mau mix just had three kittens - might still be in labor waiting for more.
So I guess 6 pets. They are outdoors, just come in during the day for loving and food - doors are open during the day for them to come and go as they please.
My dog obeys sentences not just one word commands.
One cat doesn't like the other, but she seems to be keeping her distance out of respect for the other being in labor.
One cat is housebroken -the other prefers to go outside.
Neither gets on tables or anything other than the couch/chair/bed.
None beg or bother us while we eat and they all obey the word NO!
And none of my pets eat my shoes or steal my socks. They are perfect children.

I use to have pets, but I am so allergic I can't have them anymore. So I make a
fuss over our 'grandpuppies' and friends pets. I have had dogs, cats, white rat,
a chick. The cat kept picking on the chicken in the wire mesh cage so I thought
that I would let them duke it out between them. Well, cat and chick faced each
other and when the chick pecked the cat on the nose, contest over. No more
trouble. I miss those days.
