I have a 2006 jeep wrangler x and there is this noticable soft clunking soud when pushing in the clutch and releasing it as well. Even without it being in gear! Are we talking problems or is this typical for jeeps?

I heard that (it was almost a thump) in my VW bus before the clutch cable broke.

Something that new should still be under warranty. Just take it to the dealer. If it didnt make the noise when you first got the vehicle, it probably isnt normal. There are a couple of bearings involved in the clutch assembly that can fail, and also something could just be loose. Just take it to a dealer and get it fixed for free.

Is jeep still under warranty? If so, the repair adviser at your local dealer will be able to hear the clunking noise. I'm sorry I can't hear it from here. He'll know.

It is probably the throwout bearing, and it will probably get worse. It might be a good idea to have it checked out.

throwout bearing gone/going bad... or weak/broken finger/diaphram on the clutch assembly
