I'm doing an essay on how Vets are treated by our Govt. I have a basic idea for NAM, but I need more input for how the troops comming home now are being treated. yes, I know about the bad hospitals that they are being sent to now, but what else is there? How are they being treated by the people?

I am a disabled vet and for the most part I have been treated fairly well. There are a few doctors that should be fired without question that I have seen that is for sure. They do a lot with little resources at most clinics. I go to the one in Chattanooga TN and they are very efficient and professional with very few exceptions. In many ways, I guess it just depends on the level of care you need.

Good question. Based on what I've seen, the veterans of the Iraq/Afghanistan wars are being well treated by most people (there's always a few jerks around).

But I'd suggest you ask them. Specifically, try calling your local chapters of these veterans' organizations:
American Legion
Veterans of Foreign Wars
Disabled American Veterans

They should be able to give you their impressions--and may even have some publications or studies you can use. All of them will be in the phone book.

In the VA system, I have always been treated well. I started using the VA system 1n1980. Walter Reid is not a Veterans Hospital. It is an Army Hospital, that is run by the US Army. That is the problem. All the other branches, Navy and Air Force, prepared for the influx of war casualties. The Army, as usual, improved as they went and became overwhelmed. Then, as the problems got bigger, Army personel made excuses and said "it's not my job!"

The treatment for Veterans depends upon the proximity of cameras divided by the time span prior to an election.

I was in Iraq, for five months, working for Haliburton (KBR).
Let me tell you, (KBR) contractors treated the troops like crap.( over and over again ).
I raised hell about it, and was asked to leave.
(KBR) hires, from all over the world.
I've never seen so much disrespect for our Troops.
It made me sick.(and) The Troops are not allowed to complain about it.
(KBR) has 25,000 contractors in Iraq.
