It is not possible. There will always be people who have more and who have less, even if the difference ends up being very subtle. Those at the low end will be considered "in poverty".

Also, "poverty" is very relative. What we see as poverty in the US is upper middle class or better in some developing nations. Being a subjective term, it cannot be objectively eliminated.

Yes.

We're reducing it now.

Poor people ARE moving up.

How do I know this?

Poverty is holding steady as a % of the population in recent years and is about half the proportion of the population that was the case in the 1950s. And while the number of people in the US that are poor is increasing, it is increasing by about 1/3 the rate at which destitute, unskilled people are emmigrating here illegally.

In other words if we stopped illegal immigration the poverty rate would be plummeting.

...which is why they keep coming here - because they DO move up over time.

Lower taxes and less regulation allow the private economy to efficiently reinvest more of its own earnings, thus creating growth, thus creating jobs. The economy is doing this now even after the Fed raised interest rates a record 17 straight times.

Malthus was basically wrong about everything - the economy of the last 25 years proves it.

With the whims of human nature, the corruption of human desire, and the capriciousness of the universe in general, I don't see how we can eliminate economic poverty (I won't go into other kinds of poverty). Some people cannot or will not take care of their economic affairs period. Some people are gullible enough to hand their money over to any charlatan that comes along with a glib tongue and "too good to be true" offer. Some people just make bad choices. A fool and his money really are soon parted. In the foreseeable future, I say no. However, like anyone else, I don't know what is coming. One day, there may be an invention that literally wipes out any human hunger or basic need. Everyone may not be rich but their housing, food, and clothing needs will be met. That would be a good day.

I dont think so, in ne society there always has to be a lower element of ppl. That way the ruling elite can go around the globe in what they say is a peace ministry, or a christian fellowship so they can impose their views on those folks in the name of whatever their cause(hidden agenda) may really be. If you take the poverty element out of the game and there is a level playing field its harder to promote these agendas.

no , but lets look at the facts ( for the USA ) if your a grown adult living in the USA , and live in poverty most of the time it's their own damn fault ,
the opportunity this country has to offer are endless ,

people that are living in poverty for the most part are there because of decisions they made , lack of education , children out of wedlock , living in debt , the list goes on and on .

the USA needs to quit being a handout country , and more people need to start taking accountability for their own future

if you want to stay poor in this country just look to the government , they will do all they can to keep you there

Unfortunately no. Remember Christ himself said, 'the poor will be with you always".

Also remember that poverty is a relative term. Americans who are considered to be "living in poverty" are comparatively rich in the eyes of the impoverished of other nations. Poverty is deemed to be what it is by those who observe it. We determine degrees of wealth and poverty based on our own perspective.

{There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.}
Acts, Chapter 4:34-35

No, its not. Taxes favor the rich, the poor stay poor because they fall behind, and they are forced to struggle because there is so much coming against them, like the ever rising cost of gasoline, the raise in food prices, and the cost of Education.

If we made the laws completely equal, and if people stopped using more than their share of the world (IE Fossil Fuels, Food) then we could have a much better system than we do now.
