Hey guys! I found out i am pregnant like two weeks ago, which makes me about 6 weeks this week. I called the doctor to make my prenatal appointment and they advised me that i would have to come in for a pelvic exam and then leave. THEN... i would have to schedule another appointment for my first prenatal appointment. What the heck? Don't they know insurance co-pay isn't cheap? And that i work 9-5 at a job that i can't miss days like that? lol... I hate that they can't schedule you for both appts. at once. Did this happen to anyone else?

I would say this more their office policy than what really happens.

You do have a pelvic exam in your first trimester--this is to check you out and to make sure you are healty. But many times (at least at my OBGYN) this can be combined with your first pre-natal exam or in your second visit. In my first pre-natal visit, they took a full medical history, my vitals, and a urine/blood test. My second appt was an ultra-sound and pelvic. The appointments were about a month apart. I think you will find though, that procedure and policy will vary from office to office.

I suggest, trying to schedule on the same day, explain to them your situation, and if they will not accomodate you, get a new doctor! Your OBGYN, should be the doctor that accomodates you as much as possible.

Find a different doctor. It sounds like yours is just trying to milk you for extra money, most do the pelvic and prenatal exam at the same appointment. I can't imagine what he might get up to in the delivery room to try to squeeze out extra money!

Sorry, sounds like they're trying to milk your insurance to me. I've had 3 kids and never had to have seperate appointments for prenatal and pelvic.

Is this your regular gyn? If this is a new doctor, then it is possible that they need to get your medical history, etc. first. If this is your regular doctor, call back and ask why you must do two separate visits. Tell them you have a tight schedule and it's hard for you to have 2 times away from work.

That is silly and your doctor is a money grubber. He just wants to get paid for two visits, when of course he could accomplish everything in one visit.

I would find a more patient-centered OB. I wouldn't trust anyone who is willing to inconvenience his patients this much, just so he can bill the insurance company for two visits.

I only had to go once for my first prenatal visit.

My doctor did my pelvic along with my first prenatal visit.

when i called my OB to report my pregnancy, they made two separate appointments for me. the first one was to ask me a zillion questions about my past medical history, my family's medical history, and my husband's family's. they weighed me, took a urine sample, and sent me home. the second visit was actually the first time i got to see my OB. that was when they did the pelvic exam/pap. I'm not sure why they didn't combine the two... probably something to do with conflicting schedules.

I only had 1 appointment. It sounds pretty silly to me. Maybe check out some other doctors!

Weird...my doctor did everythign at once. But, every doctor is different and runs things differently (for example, mine doesnt' have me pee in a cup every visit).
