They are not subject to this because they are not regulated by any athletic commission. In the 70s and 80s, when it was still catagorized as a sport, there was no real call across the board for drug testing as there is now. When Vince McMahon classified wrestling as sports entertainment, not only did he save tax dollars, but spared himself against regulations that are in other sports. Don't let the title entertainer fool you. Many in professional wrestling have wrestled in college or have done other sports where there is drug testing, so saying these men and women are not athletes is an injustice to them.

There are many "athletes" in this world that are not drug tested. Just because you are drug tested, doesn't mean you are an athlete. And just because you are drug tested, doesn't mean you are clean either. Take a good hard look at some of our pro sports players. You cannot tell me that some of them are not using drugs of any kind. Heck they even give some of them pain shots to get them through the game with an injury. Those are drugs, right??? Look at Ricky Williams (Miami Dolphins), he flat out said he smoked pot. Well didn't he take a drug test. Jamal Tinsley (Indiana Pacers) was just recently caught with pot in his SUV. So now that we have that settled. I am saying that WWE wrestlers are athletes.

Pro wrestlers are athletic performers. Wrestlers that compete in the olympics (Greco Roman style wrestling) ARE tested, as are other truly competitive wrestlers.
But you knew this...

I think the wrestlers are right, what's the sense of drug tests if there's only show fights with predictable winners? The only sense of such drug tests might be to close out those who take "real" drugs as TV stations would not not like to have cocaine addicts in their shows, too. ;-)

WWE does have some sort of wellness policy, that they adopted shortly after the untimely death of Eddie Guerrero.
