I worked for a guy that is so rude to his employees in a painting company. He has guys that do drugs and drink on the job. He tells me that his wife doesn't want me working for him, which I think is bull. These guys that work for him do messy work. Is this descrimination? What can I do?

I also hate it when people drink on the job, but not much can be done about it.

You could always start your own, and choose your own policies. Hey, if you know what you're doing, I'd work for you rather than for the drunk.

Or, if you must stay an employee, move to Utah. I would say Saudi Arabia, but there you'll get even more discrimination. (assuming you're a female).

Personally, I'll tolerate the drunks as long as they pay me well enough and don't touch me.

Lisa, why is is it hard for you to imagine somebody's wife objecting to you working on their all man crew? The men probably won't be sorry to see you go either since you object to their work, their work ethic, and the way they talk to each other on the job. It doesn't sound like the perfect job for you at all. If you can form your own painting company you could take away all the work in town, as long as you perform better. That would be sweet revenge, and save you from the swearing, rudeness and fears of people's wives. But be sure to wear overalls and no makeup when you bid the jobs. Those jealous wives can get right in your way, even when you have no interest whatever in their pathetic husbands.

First have you ever discussed this problem with him? If you have he is using his wife as an excuse. Has he given you any other reason for letting you go, such as poor performance of work? Has he reasonable tried to help you over come your short falls in your work.? Check with the Equal Opportunity on this matter. How many employees does he have that he personal hired for the Company? All this matter in Discrimination Charges.

Call the better business bureau about the bad work.
There really isn;t much you can do about the wife not wanting you to work for him. Most states allow employers to fire employees without providing a reason.

Leave ASAP. He and his employees are a danger to themselves and others, literally and probably legally. Use 'the wife doesn't like me' as an excuse to move on quickly.

Not much except move on.
I think your boss is trying to tell you the same thing so you will quit and he won't have to pay unemployment if he fires you.

Find another job, it is his responsiblity to hire who he wants, not yours. You haven't stated anything that indicates discrimination.
