We put our money in one bank account and pay everything out of that account. We decide together on what to buy and how much to save etc...
We've been doing that ever since I first started working and my wife was still at school...
It has worked for the past 20 years so...
And no, I don't mind that I earn more money than she does... we are as one as they say...

My husband and I combine mine, but I honestly have had a hard time with that because 1) I bring home more money than he does cause $2,000 of his goes to his ex wife every month 2) My ex husband and I had separate accounts and it was nice not having to tell someone, or explain where they money went every time you spent something.

I plan on keeping things mostly separate and having a joint account to where we have a savings and another to pay bills. I had a fairly bad experience w/ joint accounts with my last really serious relationship. But nothing's wrong with what you & your husband do, it's all a matter of how you two are with spending, and I just won't take that chance anymore.

Currently me and my husband has 3 banks accounts. He has one that his check goes to that his mom is on (by the way I don't like the fact that she has access to his money). Then we have an account together that my check goes to. Our bills come out of the account that he has with his mom because pays all of them and he had the automatic withdrawals set from that acct. My check is just used for all of our extracurricular activities such as movies, dinner, shopping, etc. Oh and then I have a savings acct that I just throw extra money in. Once we buy a house he said he is going to close the acct he has with his money and have everything coming out of the acct that we share.

I think that if two people are married, then they should have common goals, and the paychecks should be pooled together to get the most from the buck. I will be the check writer, and make sure things are taken care of before there are any expenditures. You have to have an understanding in order to do this, and be trusting of one another. Pooling together in financial matters shows togetherness.

If you've ever been through a divorce or been involved in an abusive relationship, you will understand the importance of keeping finances separate.

I think that there should be one account for communal payments and then 10% of the pay check right off the top should be put into his and hers savings accounts/checking. You never know about a rainy day. If you have questions about finance check out Suze Orman's website.

I am getting married in June and we are combining our money. If people keep their money separate, why are they married? I can see people having 'separate' accounts for 'fun money', but for savings and paying bills, I believe that should be out of one shared account.

We combine our money into one account for bills. We have separate spending funds for "fun" money so we each have the same amount just for ourselves to spend as we wish.
