Is there a women's magazine that is not about celebs, gossips, skinny aspirations and just basic shiite? If there isn't, do you think there would be an interest in it for a new one to start? You know, a nice women's mag that not only fashionable but intelligent too with lots of useful things in it, some science, some reports on current issues, humor etc. Basically a magazine that if there for the smart woman...

Instead of the general 'steal her look' type crap there could be a regular column about how to fix plumbing or something like that. Ok, there should be a fashion column as well but modelled on normal sized women. Some fashion ideas that would look good not only on size 0 women.

Its called FHM! Seriously if it didnt have the half naked ladies and had womans fashion instead of mens it would be a brilliant magazine. I read my boyfriends all the time instead of the getting that cr*p that whines on about being brilliant and individual but is really 'how to get siennas style' or 'how to get a man to marry you in 30 mins' or the really horriffic ones that are like a jeremy kyle show in magazine form (although I'm pretty sure the target audience cant read)

I don't think it could work commercially. There are some smart women out there, but I don't think enough to sustain a such a publication. Most women are pretty shallow when it comes down to it. Gossip, skinnyness and celebrities sell.

It would likely be hard to attract advertisers. What sort of advertisers would want to market to this group, when they can much more cost effectively reach the larger group who prefer the typical trash that passes for women's magazines.

The problem is you're trying to make a "women's magazine" style of publication, while taking out many of the things that really define that genre. But you haven't managed to make the break completely - you want it to be "fashionable". Which really makes it no different to the gossip/celeb/skinny magazines.

If you want a science journal, then read Nature. If you want current issues, pick up Time or Newsweek.

Great question! There are finally more magazines coming out that focus on the inside not the outside. O magazine (Oprah's mag) is all about how to live your best life. MORE magazine is for the over 40 crowd, lots of mid life career changes, etc. My friend loves MS. magazine.

I'd like to read a women's magazine that keeps me updated on issues that matter to me as a woman. I'm sick of all the "celeb make-up how to's" and the "how to please your man in bed" crap. I'd like to see the following:

How to get ahead and be respected in your workplace
Self-defense techniques every woman should know
New laws concerning women's rights
Women in the military
Important women's health issues
Do it yourself tips for your home and car
How to know when to kick your man to the curb
Rape and abuse survivor stories
Fashions that fit a real woman's body
Time management tips
Stress management tips
Empowering stories
Jokes
Political news

The list goes on and on. You know, most women's magazines are run by men, if that sheds any light on the issue.

The one I tend to buy and the title gives it it's content is REAL magazine. It's more for the 30 something woman and has more high street looking women aswell as topical issue. I, too, am just about sick of being told how to get the perfect life in Perfect Life St, Perfectsville! Stuff that!

Yes, and a magazine for bigger women too, I stopped buying mags a long time ago as they only do the skinny thing and are full of diets, I don't want that, I'm intelligent enough to work out for myself what I should eat/not eat...but news, current affairs, yes, humour, interviews with a wider range of people instead of just celebs and how fantastic their houses are....

That would be great. A magazine that allows women to look the way they should, natural, healthy weight, and happy. I would encourage you to visit the Dove Soap web page, that shows how beauty has become so distorted that it is virtually (pun intended) impossible for any girl to achieve what society sees as attractive. We as mothers, sisters, and friends need to focus on the positives of those women around us and stop being so critical of the way others look.
Anorexia, Bulimia, Suicide and Depression are on the rise because of the unrealistic expectations that society places on females to look a certain way. In order to appear perfect women must monitor what they do, look like and eat almost every waking moment.
A magazine that celebrates just being average and normal would be a great way to advocate for all womankind.

Yes, I do. It's called Figure magazine. Its generally for plus sized women but the articles are really great and there are no celebrities in them just real women with real issues. Check it out. Its a great magazine devoted to making women feel good about themselves.

Try Marie Claire, its not full of celeb gossip, granted there are interviews with celebs but tasteful ones, and they deal with important issues, as well as health and fashion issues. Its a very grown up magazine for intelligent women and i love it. They focus on people who have made a difference, review music and books, its all fab!!
