I bought 4 Neon Tetras to go along with my 2 Red Eyed Tetras. The Neons, within like 3 days of putting them in the tank developed white spots, and literally started rotting alive...it looked like the dreaded NTD. This was a span of 7 days. My 2 Red Eyes, which i've had since October seem to be just fine. All the neons died at the same time, Saturday night, and it is now Monday morning. Should i worry about the Red Eyes?

That is why you should always quarantine new fish before you introduce them to your main tank. If the white spot was ich then your red eyes probably have it to, even if you don't see it on them yet the parasites could still be in the water. If you want you can treat the tank or you can wait a few days to see if anything shows up then treat it then, if nothing shows up then you are lucky this time.

Some of the dieseases do affect all the fish. Some do not. You should like over the fish carefully before buying them. If you get a fish from an aquarium that has a diseased fish in it, you might quaranteen the new fish before exposing it to the others. You should let the place know that you bought the fish from since the rest of the fish may be contaminated with the disease as well. There also might be something to put in the water that will get rid of the disease. You might also see if the place you bought it from has something to help the fish out.

GOOD QUESTION!
You will now learn from this experience that new fish should be kept in a separate tank to observe for a few days before joining the main tank. If new fish have a disease that they picked up before you got them, they can spread it to the tank and to the weaker fish in the established tank. Return the dead or sick fish to the store;don't bother to medicate the new ones. Put some salt(kosher or aquatic, not regular) in the tank, raise the temperature to 85 deg. and then do a water change after a day or two.. Never buy fish from a tank that has any dead or sick fish or dirty water.

well its usually best to separate new fish in a smaller tank that's been treated with medicine before adding them, but if your tanks been infected, take out the remaining fish and tread them in a smaller tank, because you can get the concentration of medicine more accurate in a small tank, and probably save a bit of cash

Neons die very easily. They are not not hardy AT ALL. They stress out easily and can pick up diseases like nothing else. If you can catch it in time.... treat the whole tank and wait. If you don't get it in time you're going to have to start all over again. but def. check your fish next time and let them sit in the adjusting baggie for a bit longer next time before tossing them in with the others.

My mom recently went though something like that and she ended up having to treat the ones she had before she got new fish for ICK. It was really an easy process for her to get rid of. The stuff is something you can get at superwalmart.

you could take your new dead fishes back to the pet store. usually stores have gurantees on their fishes 1-2 weeks and ask them for a medication that will cure whatever it is your fish have.
