The yard gets less than 4 hrs of sunlight and has alot of moss right now. We would like to start grass to improve the appearance.

Grass will always do poorly in those conditions. Moss, on the other hand, would always be a pretty green and never need mowing! Or you could leave the ground bare and do big pots of shade flowers with a nice bench to sit on.

Beware of ground covers because they will take over sunny areas as well as shady.

Go to Walmart, a hardware store, or Lowe's or Home Depot & ask for a shade grass seed. They have all sorts of grass seed, but they are separated & packaged for the type of light.

Rye grass likes shade and damp soil. Try planting rye grass.

Try nand find something called Wonderlawn, it's a low-growing grass that's soft ane beautiful, and never needs mowing.

lol @ byu. Have you considered ground covers? There are bound to be a few that like to be wet. You might try adding a few bags of sand to help the drainage.
