babies all develop at different rates....i have 3 children, my first son was arround 6 months when he started saying mum and dada, by 12 months he could count up to 10 and knew his animals and the sounds they make..... we have him on video with his first birthday cake counting candles. he certainly was one to talk....we thought he was going to be a genious but he is now average academic wise.
my daughter didnt utter a word till she was 15 months old but by 3 she was reading and writing, she was given an iq test by mensa at 6 and her score was 171.
the age a baby starts talking is irrelevant to how bright he will turn out. with my first i had a lot of time on my hands and talked to him constantly.... i think to get an early talker that must be the key.... talk lots to your baby, play songs, sing and have fun. all those little movements he makes with his mouth are practice for when he starts talking. if you make faces at him he will coppy.... babies learn by example so play away and most of all have fun with your litle one.... they dont stay little for long

:)

i have 3 children and they were between 6 and 9 months old when they actually said there first real word they cooed a lot before that but every child is different they are individual little people and will do things when they are ready at there own pace mine are now 8, 15, and 17 and they grew fast so dont rush them just enjoy them while you have them because the older they get the less you see of them

Your baby will learn to talk during his first two years of life. Long before he utters his first word, he's learning the rules of language and how adults use it to communicate.

He'll begin by using his tongue, lips, palate, and any emerging teeth to make sounds ("ooh"s and "ahh"s in the first month or two, babbling shortly thereafter). Soon those sounds will become real words ("mama" and "dada" may slip out and bring tears to your eyes as early as 4 to 5 months).

From then on, your baby will pick up more words from you and everyone else around him. And sometime between 18 months and 2 years, he'll begin to form two- to three-word sentences. As your baby makes mental, emotional, and behavioral leaps, he'll increasinly be able to use words to describe what he sees, hears, feels, thinks, and wants.

EVERY CHILD DEVELOPS DIFFERENTLY. That said, your child started talking to you allready by crying and making sounds. Children about 9 months old say daa and baa and no. You may learn that NO is his first word.

Babies start saying words from 9 to 18 months. The more you talk to him, the more likely he will talk back sooner.

Enjoy every second with him! Record his noises now, you will be glad you did when he is older and driving you crazy! (my boy is 18)

10weeks old!!!!! Come on, he will not begin until well after a year. My first spoke within a week at two years old, (apart from the odd mama and dada etc) he suddenly spoke and everything was said correctly, my second son spoke just after a year and everythign was wrong and very very funny!

Between 9 months and a year each time. Usually something very simple like "dad" or "dog". Your son will gurgle away happily for a long time yet.
:O)
