Bhargava (or Bhargav) is a surname of Brahmins whose Gotra is Bhargav. That is, those who are descendants of Muni Bhargav (Bhrigu). A Sanskrit saying states that Bhrugu jaayate iti Bhargava, which means that all those born of Bhrigu are Bhargavas.

Bhargavas are a very close knit community with strong internal relationships. Until recently, it was rare for Bhargavas to marry outside the community.

This is also a surname of a set of people from South India who use BHARGAV (without an A).

Bhargava is also name of a gotra of Shivalli Madhwa brahmins of Udupi.

Bhargav is also a kid at Clear Brook High School :-)

Given/First Name
Bhargav is also a first name. It is one of the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu. He is the son of Sage Jamadagni & Renuka. He was a manifestation of the ultimate divinity's need to balance 'dharma' and 'adharma' (harmony and disharmony) and consequently visited justice on many kings who had been abusing their power or had lost a hold on their ethics as protectors of their dominions. His time of activity comes to a close when he encounters Lord Rama (another of the avatars of Lord Vishnu).
A female variant of this name is Bhargavi

"Bhargava" is also the first name of some Brahmins mostly from south India such as Bhargava Brindavanam where Brindavanam being the last/sur name

In spiritual learning the sanskrit word "Bha" means 'Atma njan', i.e: knowledge in the eternal life, knowledge in God and His ways. So Bharathan means person who finds 'rathy' in Bha, that much he is intersted in the field of eternal knowledge.
Bhargav means a person who is proud of his knowledge in 'Bha'
in Hindu mythology Bhargav is the name of Parasurama, he is otherwise called Bhargava Rama.

Bhargava is a heroic character who is symbolised as the man of eternal values who fought many times and killed all the kshethriya kings for their arrogance. He is hot tempered who does not have any soft feelings in the myth.

Yor friend has a very many name which he can also be proud of. Meaning is a person having proud on his knowledge of eternal truth and spiritual world

When he met Rama on his way to Ayodhya just after the marriage with Sita, his brothers and their wives, Dasharadhan and the citizens; all his powers were attributed to Rama for which Bhargava had been longing for.
