my friend's baby was 4 weeks late and she asked her dr. if it was okay and they told her it would not harm the baby at all. but good luck trying to get the stuff down, it is horrible. we tried everything, milk shakes, oatmeal, we even tried pouring it down her throat so she wouldn't have to taste it. she finally gave up and just waited until nature came into play.

Hi there. I took Castor oil with my first and to be honest I wouldn't advise it. I think it put me into slow labour but hun it really wasn't worth it. The stuff is vile, it made me sick I cant even describe the taste. I took a full bottle of the stuff before it had any affect on the Saturday afternoon. My daughter still didn't actually arrive until early hours Tuesday morning, so no hun don't bother, I certainly wont be doing it again.

Contrary to what you may have heard, castor oil or other bowel stimulants should not be used to provoke labor. While they can initiate contractions, they tend to produce significant abdominal discomfort and may cause dehydration and electrolyte disturbances that can endanger both mother and child. Having said that, here are a few things I recommend:
Walking: Through mechanisms not fully understood, walking can provoke or intensify contractions. The mechanism possibly involves the release of prostaglandins that are contained between the uterine wall and the bag of water (fetal membranes).
Unprotected intercourse: Semen contains prostaglandins. Their presence, combined with increased uterine activity after orgasm, can trigger labor.
Nipple stimulation: When a baby suckles, the stimulation of the nipple sends a neural impulse to the brain. This causes the release of a hormone (oxytocin) that causes milk letdown. The uterus has numerous receptors for oxytocin that, when stimulated, cause uterine contractions. You may get the same effect by gently rubbing your nipples with a warm, moist washcloth for 15 to 20 minutes. This can be repeated several times throughout the day.

Hi there. I actually tried castrol oil 2 nights ago. It did help me to have 2 bm's. I took it around 3:30 pm and at 8pm I started having contractions. They lasted for 4 hours but weren't painful enough to call it labour pains. They did stop and hear I am still waiting. I do know alot of people who have taken it and everything was fine with both them and baby. So I don't think it is dangerouse. You are over your due date so I say give it a try. I have a good feeling it just may work for you.

My mum tried it and threw up for hours cause it tasted soooo bad!!!... she then went into labor... nothing to do with the castor oil, just happened.
It is proved that intercourse brings on labour as there is a chemical in the semen that makes us contract... Also, its like servical swipe with the penatration!!
Good luck, and if it doesn't work, it will take your mind off being late and you can have some fun trying!!!!

I tried it and it worked for me. I was 40+ weeks when i went into labour. There is a thin line between a little and too much though and it can give you extremely bad and painful diarrhoea which is the last thing you need to be worrying about so i definitely wouldn't reccomend it.

they now say that you should not use castor oil - it makes many sick and you could dehydrate yourself from the vomiting and diarrhea which is not healthy for you or baby. Sex seems to be the best labor starter - especially if you are able to have an orgasm bc they cause the uterus to contract - it may be enough to help start labor. Good luck!

Caster oil does not induce labour. It makes you vomit and gives you diarhoea. For people that it has worked for, it was probably the stress they put their body in that started labour. Sex works well because the semen has prostaglandins in it, they use prostaglandin gel in hospital at inductions to soften your cervix and bring on contractions. It won't harm your baby to take the castor oil , but it wont help either.

It's not safe. Remember that anything you eat, your baby eats. So something that would probably give you diarrhea is going to give your baby diarrhea, and at 41 weeks, your baby's body is ready for it's first bowel movement, and the last thing you want is your baby having a bowel movement in the uterus, it can potentially cause serious respiratory problems.

Go and see an accupunturist - they have very god results.
I also know a friend who went into labour after drinking pineapple juice but might have just been a coincidence!
