Anyone experienced with treatment, please advise me on what to do. Been on crutches for a week. Cold-pack does not help.

Tendons, as with ligaments, have poor blood supplies. This means that it takes much longer to heal that a muscle injury, or skin injury-both of which have better perfusion of a blood supply. Ice should be used only for the first day or so to reduce inflammation-swelling. After that the use of heat will promote blood flow to the area to clean out toxins and swelling. The use of alternating heat and cold at this point can be good too--it produces a 'pump affect' to clean out the area.

The best thing to do is too get to an Orthopedic Surgeon, and seek medical treatment.
These particular injuries take a very long time to heal, and must be treated properly so as to avoid permanent disability.

The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body and will take time to heal...you do not state if you have seen a Dr. or not....If not, I would suggest that you see an orthopedic Dr. right away...some injuries are so severe that they require surgery and some may need to be put in a cast or immobilized...try taking an over the counter ansaid like Motrin or Aleve as directed on the package....

I am a nurse and worked in orthopedics for many years...
