Download "hijack this" and run it. It lists all the start up programs in the system just remove the entries that u are not sure.
Download the cprocess(currProcess) run in, it lists all the current running programs and their location on the system, find the location of the exe files that u doubt to be virus, type it in Google if it is a virus, goto that folder select that file and press shift+del and click on Yes.

first identify the programme/ad box name , some programmes will install in general method , if its like that you can found it in add/remove programmes list , then remove it , if yu can't you anti spyware/adware
goto controll panel -->> Add / remove programmes
