As I read through the various questions and answers, I'm appalled at the lack of basic English skills. I do realize this is a multinational site, so I try to be a bit forgiving, but it appears no one cares that their written language skills are as important as verbal language skills when it comes to representing our community. Or am I just a snob?

To justinhbanner: Thanks for the constructive criticism. I noticed that you have yet to post any questions so I will be sure to keep watch on your profile and in the future I will follow your example.

To Some Random Guy: I apologize for not including the bisexual community. It wasn't my intent to exclude anyone.

To Serenity: Please clarify your response. Are you saying that because this is the Internet basic written language skills should be ignored?

To BAW: Help me out...is "text language" an officially recognized language?

I wish I could say you were wrong, but sadly, no, the average participant here does seem to lack the skills of not only basic English but of syntax, grammar and spelling.

As for the idea that homosexuals are above average in intelligence, consider the factual statistics. On average gays are 4 times as likely to have college or university degrees, earn approx 3 times the average of a heterosexual and have 6 times the disposable income. These 3 facts make it clear that even though gays are constantly put upon by society, we, as whole tend to excel in spite of it.

The deeds of man speak volumes greater than any words he may alone speak.

........and NO, you're not being a snob, just observant.

Edit: I notice some of the answers are saying it has nothing to do with sexuality, although I believe it is not a biological factor in determining intelligence, I do believe our experiences force us into being better than the rest. This in no way is meant to imply superiority, but it is akin to a black man exceeding expectation against the racism and roadblocks he would face. Two sides of the similar if not same coin.

Intelligence is not based on sexual preference, gender expression, or sexual orientation.

I have to agree with the lack of basic English skills presented in several forums, not only here, but else where as well. I feel this stems from a few factors. 1) The poor quality of education in some areas; 2) and this is probably the true reason, just pure out and out laziness.

OK, I am no English scholar and I do make errors, but at least I can put together a sensible sentence and do know how to use spell check.

Maybe people should just slow down and read what they right...I mean write :-)

Everyone has their intelligence, that means that not only the "homosexuals" It all depends how they use their intelligence. Yes I have noticed a lot of users that have poor English spelling, but I would assume that those individuals are learning the language. I would also take it that some do it to look dumb. I'm not going to lie, as I do some misspelling myself as well. As I read the questions, I start laughing at them because the way the asker spells the words in their questions.

Homosexuals are, more or less, average persons. That means that homosexuals, along with the general population, get about a "C" in English grammar and composition.

If you intend to raise the standards of English skills, the best way to do so is by example and gentle correction rather than casting such broad aspersions against a community that has no common element other than a shared attraction toward members of their own gender.

You may also take into account that there are a number of younger individuals who participate in this site, and as such, they are still in school. They have not had the opportunity to hone their writing skills in college.

I know this has been a wordy answer, so let me summarize:

Give them a break!

Your not a snob.
I have noticed that too and after reading many ans. & questions I feel that the majority of folks that visit this site, and others, are young people that really don't take the time to use spell check etc.
Please don't judge the whole GLBT community by a very small handful of people-that, in it's self, would be wrong.
Some of the language here is very base and sometimes hard to figure out, but you muddle through anyway if you wish to be a part of the site.

Well what is your take on Bi-sexuals? You should never think that your smarter than straights, bis, gays. I'm not sure what you are but by that statement you just said right there I would have to say it was a quite snobby statement. Sorry but it was really uncalled for. Bill Gates isn't gay. Hes one of the richest men in the world. Smart as a whip too.

Nothing whorse than a gay man thinking hes better than everyone else. Almost stereotypical if you ask me. I have a boyfriend and hes into men 100%. I know for a fact that he would feel the same way I do.

Homosexuality knows no boundaries when it comes to race, religion, ethnicity and financial means. I think some are in a hurry to answer, others have english as a second language and some honestly just do not have the skills.

There have been a variety of studies indicating
that your average out-of-the-closet homosexual
is more EDUCATED than the general public.

Note, however, the "out-of-the-closet" part
is important, and there is a huge difference between
"educated" and "intelligent".

Reasons tendered but by no means proved:
People who have accepted their own sexuality
have more likely actively discussed it and/or seen
research on it, its effects, and the effect of its
suppression. All of these things are more likely
to happen in an academic atmosphere. Education
is also more likely to happen in an academic
atmosphere, so there is likely to be some
correspondence.

I've known WAY too many canny but uneducated
people to link intelligence to education. Perhaps
intelligent people are more likely to seek education,
but that's about as far as I'd guess...

Sexuality has nothing to do with intelligence. Many people who end up spending much of their time on the computer are very use to a computer language of lazy typing. Others, however, may just be in a hurry and end of typing too quickly to realize what they are typing. I'm glad that you are so interested in keeping proper, but you need to let go of others inadequacies.

No. I must say that the English is rather "choice". If you get my drift. Some of the spelling is rather shocking, especially when there is a spell check available. Now I think I'm the snob. As for the intelligence level of the homosexual community, I think it is made up of all sorts. We are just normal people, I think we may just have more drive in us to get/ achieve what we want.
