I just moved to a new home in December. My mail is still being returned to sender. I have contacted the local post master several times. He just says that he will check with the delivery person. What in the world can I do to fight this???

I can't keep having important things returned in mail and I never receive it.

The first thing you must do is notify all of your mailers of your new address. It is your responsibility to do this. The post office WILL forward mail to your new address for one year.

It is possible that some mail that is still addressed to your old address is being delivered to that address on the day that the regular carrier is off. That can happen when a substitute carrier is on the route. (The post office does not have a master list of residents for each address) Sometimes the new resident will write 'RETURN TO SENDER' on the mail, which they are not allowed to do. In this case the mail may be returned.
If the postmaster says he will check with the carrier, he will probably do so. They can make a note for substitutes to check when they deliver the mail.
But the best idea is for you to inform mailers of your new address.

(Sorry to inform the next answerer, but the letter carrier does not enter any changes into the system. Nor does he stamp anything on any letters.)

I am a carrier, and I have seen mail come addressed to someone who moved 40 years ago. But the mailer continues to send a statement out every quarter, even though they keep getting them back.

Best wishes!

Let me see... Your mail is being sent to your old address...so the mail has the wrong address on it. Did the Post office put the wrong address on it? No the mailer did. Why did the mailer put the wrong address on it? Maybe because you didn't tell them your new address?
Tell everyone your new address. Most companies that send out bills, banks, magazines, etc. have online links to give out your new address.
It's primarily your responsibility since it is YOUR mail.

having the same problems. have sent in 4 change of address and called 3 times, and talked to the carrier. Still they just do what they want, becuase the carrier would have more work if he corrected the address, rather than just stamping it return.
