"Polygon" is a word for a closed shape that has straight sides. It can have any number of sides, from 3 on up.
Often times people get "polygon" confused with "pentagon".
A "pentagon" has 5 sides, but a "polygon" has 3 or more sides, you need to have a more specific name to get the number of sides from the name.

If you define your polygon as a figure that is bounded by a closed path, than the minimum number of sides is 3 - a triangle.

From there, a polygon can have an infinite number of sides. Here is a table of some names of polygons: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygon

A polygon can have just about any number of sides! The definition of a polygon is "a many sided figure that has the same number of angles as sides"....so it could look like a rectangle, a pentagon, an octagon...the list goes on!

Polygons are many-sided figures, with sides that are line segments. Polygons are named according to the number of sides and angles they have. The most familiar polygons are the triangle, the rectangle, and the square. A regular polygon is one that has equal sides. Polygons also have diagonals, which are segments that join two vertices and are not sides.

You guys forgot the digon, which has 2 sides. Although, most consider it not to be a true polygon. Search it up.
