Is it better to still play a little bit hard to get even in a long term relationship?

Definitely a turn off. Don't ever do that.
It's not playing hard to get to leave the proposing up to the guy. When married, a man usually takes his head of household role seriously. He likes to make the decision about whose household he will be the head of himself!
You put him in the awkward position of having to reply. No fun. If he wanted to marry you, he already would have asked you.
There are plenty of long-term relationships that don't involve marriage - and even though the people are 'playing house,' sometimes complete with children and everything else, they are still not married.
You might just be the easiest thing in his life to deal with and that is where it ends. If you want marriage, start looking around for someone else who wants marriage and is willing to look right at you and say, 'I want to marry YOU' You're selling yourself short thinking that little games are doing anything in a 'long term relationship.'

Yes this can be a turnoff to some men. Men are brought up to believe that they should propose to a lady and not the reverse. However since you are in a long term relationship, you should know your partner and whether this statement would be a turn off for him. However, if you do not know him enough, i suggest that you drop a hint as to you feelings and check his reaction/response before blurting out that you want to marry him.

No. Most definently not. If I were in love with a woman that wanted to marry me, since I am not afraid of commitement. It would make me very very happy. That is what I think.

No, be honest. If he can't accept honesty, he is the wrong man for you.
