it means that the planet is not undergoing any volcanic, seismic, or tidal movement.

while the earth is sustained by the constant movement, breaking, and repairing of its surface due to geologic forces, mercury has long since become a "cold" planet. there is no movement beneath the crust, no volcanic activity to repair the surface, and no shifting of seismic plates.

thus, unless an event of huge proportions takes place, the planet will be nothing more than a void ball of rock drifting in space.

It means there is no natural geologic activity. The planet is neither expanding nor contracting. There are no quakes (tectonic plate movement) volcanic eruptions, or other similar geologic incidents.

THis generally means a planet has no plate tectonics (such as the movement of continental plates on earth.) Mars is also a geologically 'dead' planet.
