Rather than the oil or crushed seeds?

The entire point of taking the flax seed gels is to get the Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids. These fats are absolutely vital to good health.

About 65% of the mass of a HEALTHY brain is made out of these fats.

Basically, you're providing building blocks that are not in the average person's diet because they are not found in processed foods. They rot very quickly so you're only going to get them in your diet if you're eating fatty fish, avocados and other sources of these Essential Fatty Acids.

The number of calories in the softgels is insignificant when compared to the rest of your diet. You would need to eat bottles a day to have enough extra calories to gain weight from them.

Eating the dry seeds is good too. Just store it in your fridge and if they ever smell like Oil Paint, throw them out because the oils are rancid.

Good Question. To be honest I took the softgels for about 3 months and gained 20 POUNDS! They have a high fat content. I am looking into some other forms of flaxseed without the fatty oils but have yet to find any.
