My friend is having a baby shower and i haven't seen her for almost two years, i am going to the baby shower, what can i get??

I've never been to a baby shower before, so haven't a clue, but i do know that people normally get bottle's, baby grow's and clothes, but i wanna get something different.

Any woman out there who've had babies please tell me what it was that you needed most of but didn't get.

Apparently it's a boy.

Thank you!

If you want to be different... get something for mommy! A nice "pampering" basket with bath salts, body lotion, etc, would be a WONDERFUL pick me up for mom once she gets home from the hospital and desperately needs a break. Also, if you live close enough, you could put in the basket a little coupon for a "free afternoon" for mommy, meaning you stop over and watch the baby while mom soaks in the tub, takes a nap, and rejuivinates herself!!!! Anything to give a new, exhausted mom some help those first few weeks would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 4mo old, and at my shower it seemed everyone bought clothes, bottles, toys, and bibs. There are lots of things people don't think of. If she is registered, check her registry and see what she may need. It depends on how much you would like to spend, and what she already has. Parents always need diapers and wipes, a travel bottle and wipe warmers are good also. Baby tubs and washclothes, soap and lotions, diaper ointment and baby powder. They also need grooming kits and a diaper bag. She will also need lots of blankets. The little first aid kits are good and the medicine kits that include gas drops and tylenol are great. Check out www.babiesrus.com they have a new mother's checklist and lots of stuff to choose from. Make sure you throw something in there for the mommy too, like a new pair of slipper for when she is in the hospital or a nice robe, maybe even a gift certificate for a manicure/ pedicure of a massage.

I had a baby, and I was surprised for a baby shower, It's fun and exciting, but it's all about the baby! People often forget that the mother goes through a hard time and that naybe she deserves a little attention too, gift certificate for a massage, pedicire, manicure, facial, etc. for when she gives birth. even for the daddy, he will be spending a few months waking up every couple hours. I'm sure he would enjoy a pedicure with his wife or girlfriend, unless he is not part of the familly. You could always, with a little bit of imagination, craft some discount coupon: free night of babysitting or Dinner on you for example. For the baby, a scrapbooking kit is always fun and different or evena gift certificate to her local grocery store for some diappers, milk,wipes.... so she can buy what she wants to use. If you are creative, buy a basket and all the accesories she will need like a nail clipper, small, comb, pacifiers, washcloths,,baby powder, lotion, shampoo, small toys, bed time stories, bed time music disks, etc. all that and make your own basket full of great stuff that you picked out yourself you can add gift certificates and a bottle of wine (for after the baby is born of course) for the parents too. It is really difficult to find something different because this is what everybody is trying to do these days. Whne I learned that my friend was pregnant, I purchased a nice basket full of great things for HER , simply because she needed to take good care of herself while pregnant. That made her really happy.

Good luck and I'm sure you will find something great.

Kudos for going with something unique. No one really wants to receive yet another bottle or pacifier or onesie. I like the bottle warmers that you plug into your carlighter. A nice baby sling is so usefull for housework and grocery shopping. they also make these pads that you place under the baby's mattress and an alarm will sound if no movement or breathing is detected in 20 seconds. Walk down the baby aisle and look for stuff that you haven't seen 50 of! Good Luck and have Fun :)

You said you wanted to get somethign different...but that has all the stuff new moms really need? How about a diaper cake with gas drops, infant Motrin, teething gel, soothing bedtime CD, and great Johnson's Soothing Bedtime Bath Products!!??

I make diaper cakes.....you should check out my site and see if this is something that YOU find exciting. I ship my cakes anywhere....and I am always getting great feedback about how much of a hit they were at the shower.

Just an idea....but it is definately a UNIQUE and DISTINCTIVE way to gift the neccesities to your friend.

Now you could always get her diapers and any size will do because they are in them for a while and they will be used. Then you could get her scrapbooking stuff. Even if you don't know if she is into that sort of thing you could always give her the receipt to take it back. Another thing is I don't know how much you want to spend on her but there is a website called red envelope.com they have cute baby things and you can only get them there. I hopw that I help. Good Luck!

Gas drops, infants Tylenol, infants Motrin, Baby Anbesol and a tube of Lotrimin cream! These are all things that the new mom will eventually need....and chances are she will need them in the middle of the night! I can honestly say that this was the BEST shower gift that I received with either of my girls!

Diapers!!! And probably a little out fit. Go to the baby section in a department store, and you'll see they have little gift sets for babies. Diapers may not seem like a cute gift but she will really need them. A couple of packages of newborn diapers, and a couple of packages of size one's.

If you know what she's having, I'd get her boy or girl stuff. Some clothes, blankets, definately DIAPERS!! WIPES!! Diaper sacks are awesome. baby lotion, etc. The best bet would be to see if she has a baby registry and get what you can afford off of there. :) It'll tell you everything she 'wants'. hope this helps!
