It has to do with their mindset. They have, for decades played second fiddle to the Yankees. They've never gotten the financial support from management. They've really been lucky that they've had a decent number of home grown great players or they may never have had the success they've had. At least winning a few of pennants along the way. I don't use references so I'm recalling 1967, 1975, 1986 as reasonably successful seasons.
Boston won't spend money. At least not until this off season. Maybe it's the beginning of a better era for the Red Sox, who knows. Finally 6 World Championships isn't too bad. Look at all the franchises that have never won or who have been in the majors just as long and have won fewer. Take the Philadelphia Phillies for example. They've been around for over 100 years and only have one world championship.
Red Sox fans have to stop hating the Yankees and it's fans and start asking Boston management why their history is one of not going after blue chip players

MLB is a company. The Yankees provided Damon extra money and he took it, so might every physique else. i think of that's genuine dumb while followers do this to former gamers. This additionally got here approximately with Jermaine Dye in Oakland, he helped them get to the playoffs just about single handedly. the subsequent 12 months he signed with the White Sox, and the A's followers booed him while he got here back to play them. The A's did no longer even grant him a settlement. So do no longer boo or call the participant a traitor till you realize the entire deal. I also have a question for people who study this. in case you labored for Chevron and made $a hundred,000 a 12 months, the gained a job grant from Shell for $150,000 a 12 months, might you reside or pass? in case you're saying pass to shell you haven't any longer any room to call every physique a traitor because of the fact all Johnny Damon and the different unfastened agent does is pass to who will pay extra. in case you're saying which you will possibly stay, you're a liar.

I'm not a big fan of the Bosox but I think that 04 was a big sigh of relief for the whole city of Boston. The past few years they have had a decent team.Because Boston is such a hugh rival to the Yankees and all there success has to rub the Redsox fans the wrong way. Just learn to Love your team without the GREEN MONSTER poking its head out.Yes,I mean jealously not the ballpark

We're only two years removed from The Bosox winning the World Series. I don't see that as choking. Theyve been in the toughest division in Baseball and they give a great showing every year. If it wasn't for the Yankees being there they would have been division champs for the past 10 years. Last was a bad year for them but they had tons of injuries.

Well they did win a few years ago and that alleviated some of the pain the fans feel. They seem to be competitive every year at least recently. You have to remember they always have to go through the Yankees which is no cake walk. They have to be considered one of the favorites going into this year with Varitek back Crisp Healthy and this Japanese pitcher. They do need a closer, losing Damon was big . The American League is so strong now it is tough to make it through. Pretty much all my teams never win so i feel your pain. TC messtograves

Some cities just breed losers! Boston is a loser city who loves their bunch of losers! Even when they do happen to win, it's only days before the losing attitude appears again.

I'll go along with the Babe Ruth idea. The only other thing I can think of is your unable to get any talented players because of how bad the parking sucks in Boston. :)

Because when Babe Ruth left them they got the curse. But maybe, just maybe, Big Pappi and Manny Ramirez might take them far this year
