If it is a constant wetness, then I would call your OB because that can be a sign of your fluid leaking. You by all rights shouldn't be having a heavy discharge of anything except amniotic fluid at this stage.
I would call your OB anyways just to be on the safe side!
Good luck!! :)

Yes I do agree with everyone else, Call the doc and get checked. Sounds like you have a slow leak. My mom walked around all day with her water broken and didn't even know it. She thought that she was just peeing on herself. But come to find out it was her water leaking out slowly. By this time there really isn't a whole lot either so there may not be a big gush like everyone wants to think it will be like. The test is very simple the just take a special piece of paper and put the fluid on it and if it is your water then it will change colors if not then you haven't lost anything by being checked out. They can do this in the office so call the doc see want they want you to do. Good luck with your little bundle of joy that will be here soon then later.

My water broke before I went to the hospital for each of my two pregnancies. I know they say that's rare, but it happened to me where the water breaking was the beginning of labor.
For my first pregnancy, it was obvious. I was lying down in bed at midnight (on my birthday, even), and there was just a sudden gush of fluid and it felt like I had wet myself.
But for my second pregnancy, I wasn't sure. It was more of a trickle, and for a while I thought I was having a discharge. But the "discharge" was clear/colorless, very runny (not mucusy), and at times it seemed to come out more quickly than a regular discharge. After a couple of hours of trickling, I decided I'd better go to the hospital (better safe than sorry).
It sounds like maybe your water has broken if you keep having a heavy discharge at this point in your pregnancy. Good luck!!

When my water broke for my first pregnancy, I had the same question. It was only a trickle. And, it was hard for me to really be sure. But, my water had broke. But, it felt as if I just keep "leaking" on myself. If it is amnioctic fluid it will be more watery than discharge and won't be sticky/thick. I would call your doctor and tell them that you are on your way to the hospital. If you are questioning it, your water has broken more than. Good luck! And, congratulations!
BTW, use a diaper under you to absorb any further (and bigger) loss of fluid on your way to the hospital. When you get the hospital they will have you wipe a piece of special paper in that area (or pee on it - I don't remember exactly) and will be able to tell you exactly what is going on.

I too would go to the doctor. I had a slow leak from about 32 weeks, I told the doc I was realy wet and he said it was a normal discharge. I wound up having a c section bc I had no fluid left and each contraction, of which I couldn't even feel yet, was crushing my baby. She is beautifl and fine now so don't worry(Ii was also leaking for a longer time) just contact the doctor, it is time.

My water was broken since I was induced at 41 weeks.
I can tell you something, it is quite a bit if water, it is very warm, it doesn't smell like urine.
My Dr always said, when in doubt, smell it! amniotic fluid is clear and oderless. It is not like discharge that can be of a mucus-like consistency.
Hope this helped some.
If you are INSIDE a pool or something like that I don't know that you could tell other than seeing cloudy water....

Sweetie, it is time to go to the Dr. & let him/her decide which it is. It just may be your water. Some ladies water breaks easily & just trickles. Others, have to push to make it break or even have it broken, then it comes out in a gush. GOOD LUCK with your precious new baby.

If there is significant wetness I would definitely call the doc, especially at 40 weeks. Discharge won't soak your panties. You'll know if your water breaks because it will gush and you'll be soaked but, leakage is definaitely possible. Good Luck.

you could have a tear in your water bag, you should call your dr. they can do a test easily to find out if it is amniotic fluid or just discharge, it could also be your mucus plug, 40 weeks isnt to early, you really need to talk to your dr. as they know best. congratulations!!!

You will be able to tell. If it's just a small leak it will come very slowly so it might be harder to tell. If it completly goes it's like gallons of water . If you keep feeling a wetness you can call your Dr. they might want to check.
