Not sure why you would want to do that. If you are using the attic as a living space, I hope you do not have a fire. Most States now require properly sized egress openings in basements that are used as living quarters. I am assuming this would also cover attics.

Not at all. If it's cool up there, it's a great way to keep them fresh. Kinda like a fridge. Keep some baking soda up in there too and you can't miss.
