As long as you dwell in your parents home it is logical to follow their rules out of sure respect for their love and concerns, and providing your 20 yr old friend really likes you, then he'll respect your situation, thus patiently wait until you're free to make your own choices...

Be a good friend and a good daughter. Have the boy come over (as a friend) and let your parents get the opportunity to know him. It will give you all a chance to learn sign language and maybe by the time your parents warm up to him you will have a lot to talk about and actually be able to talk with each other. If you can't communicate your will never have a real relationship.

Do you live in your parent's house? Are you under 18? If so, then you really have no choice, if you want to be honest, than to abide by their wishes for you and wait til you are older.

If you guys really want to be together, then one year is not going to make or break anything.

If this helps, the law is also not on his side either so you might want to make sure your parents are not willing to act on things if you go against their wishes.

Communicate with your parents. See if it is okay for you to be friends with him and possibly go out on dates or something with him. Or ask if you can invite him over for dinner so they can get to know him better.

is this question about him being deaf or about him being older? if it's about him being older then let your parents know how u feel about him. let them get to know him and hopefully they'll feel more comfortable about u being with him. whatever u do don't go behind they're backs. that's what will get u n2 trouble.
