I "talk" to my cat sometimes and am wondering if he actually hears anything except vaguely meow-like babble.

i've tried to imitate my cat's meows in a similar tone etc. and she really seems to respond. she'll meow back but i doubt she really knows why i'm meowing at her. ;)

When your cat or dog tries to imitate your sounds, do you even notice? The tone of voice, and even facial express, assist in communication with your pet, but "meowing" or "woofing" probably doesn't mean anything to them.

My dog definately thinks I am telling her something. She whines to go outside in the snow or rain or cold and we won't let her. One time I barked back at her, and she seemed startled, and answered me back!

that sounds cool. i often think in my mind that they would be looking right back at you and saying.....

"what?....What the hell is my owner talking about" i know this because my dog zoe gives me a confused face if i have a conversation with her.
