NOT alexander the great - he died of a fever contracted in Babylon. the fever had nothing to do w/ pride, and he certainly had not been defeated militarily nor unseated politically at the time.

best answer is, "Lucifer", aka, "the devil" - if you believe in that kind of thing, that is. Supposedly, he was thrown out of heaven on account of his pride ....

History has provided hunderds if not thousands of examples to choose from, although Alexandra the Great is not one of them.

Recent times, I cannont see a greater example then Hitler or Napolean, for their Russian campaigns, even though they both had the benefit of hindsight.

Ask this question a few years from now and you'd probably find Bush & Blair up there

Good Luck with the debate

I'd have to say Napoleon. His pride pushed him to invade Russia, which was an unmitigated disaster and began the process of his first defeat. And it was his pride that led him to escape from Elba and try to re-establish himself as Emperor, an attempt that ended at Waterloo in 1815.

Julius Caesar is another good example, since his pride and stubborness wouldn't allow him to accept any council or advise on ruling Rome, which was one of the big reasons behind his assasination in 44 BC.

RICHARD NIXON!
It was his idea to have all his White House conversations taped! He wanted historians to have them.
