It is 37 miles Stanstead airport to London, Liverpool Street Station.
Trains take about 45 mins and run generally every 15 mins. For the West End of London and Kings Cross areas get off the train at Tottenham Hale station and take Victoria Line tube. This is more convenient than going to Liverpool Street. Train is expensive though. You may prefer to take a coach. Full set of options available on www.traveline.org.uk.

Stansted is a long way from London, but there is an express train service from the airport's station to London Liverpool Street. Battersea is on the other side of London from Liverpool Street. East Putney is the closest tube, but its not that close. Take any train to Aldgate East then the District Line.
