I'm 23 weeks and he moves so much. I'm so worried that he is going to twist the cord all up around his neck. Is this a common thing?

Yes, it does happen, but try not to worry so much about it. You have a very active baby, so enjoy every moment of feeling him move inside you. Talk to your doctor about your fears & he/she can reassure you as I have & others will. All the best to you & your new baby.

hi, yes it can be a common thing...there are several types of things that can occur...a nuchal cord is one where it wraps around the neck one or more times...can it get really tight, it is a possibility, but not very common...if the doctor does not suspect a nuchal cord when the head delivers, it can become taught then because the cord is not elastic and may put some tension on the placenta...he then can unwrap it or cut it there ...
another thing that can occur is where the baby can twist and turn and knot the cord...this has had a few untoward consequences such as fetal demise if the cord knots itself so tight that it cuts off the blood supply to the fetus....this is not very common, though (thank goodness).
amniotic bands are also present once in a while and that is where amniotic membranes can wrap around certain body parts and inhibit their growth...
however, please do not worry...ultrasounds are very inquisitive and lots of things can be seen now-a-days...
good luck
