Last night as I was driving I noticed that my Ford Windstar 1996 was not responding well. I was not able to travel at regular speed, as the car was stalling then jumping forward. I was trying to drive slowly to get to my destination as I did not want to stop. I felt I may not get it back on, and be left on the highway with my daughter. As I was driving about 20MPH if that much my RPM was wavering higher and higher - thus not correspondfing to my actual speed. What could this be and will it cost much?

In addition last August I had a rebuilt engine put in?

first thing i'd check is to make sure ur throttle controls are working properly which can be done by a mechanic. it could possibly be that ur throttle cable is stretched or not attached properly not allowing it to move as u accelerate. it could also mean ur choke may be stuck on not allowing the throttle to return to normal position causing the revvs to remain high but have little or no acceleration. if it is only this type of problem it shouldnt cost more then $200 to fix give or take usa mechanic prices. giving that ur engine is rebuilt and not new id start there before the gearbox. u take it to the wrong mechanic and he'll rip u off and tell u the wrong things to fix.

Sounds like a transmission problem. You should check the automatic transmission level. Maybe the transmission filter needs to be replaced and new fluid put in. I imagine if the transmission doesn't improve after that you will need a new or rebuilt transmissin . That would be very expensise, more than a car transmission.

Hopefully you bought a rebuilt tranny with a 3 year warranty. Take to the one you bought it from if its under warranty.
