Is a pole chain saw difficult to use? I need to trim some trees up. I have never used one. Can they cut reasonably thick limbs or is it difficult to get enough leverage to cut thicker limbs? I've used a regular chainsaw quite a bit, but never a pole chain saw. Any pointers?

if (as you say) you've used a regular chain saw don't expect any where near the same results with a pole chain --- there good for trimming ( a bit like a hedge trimmer ) but that's it --- you actually answered half your question inasmuch as the leverage --- some soft wood limbs that are quite thick ( such as poinciannas ) but otherwise it's a bit difficult --- but like the use of any power tool --- common sense should always prevail . good luck

No they are not hard to use. It is basically a chain saw with a weed trimmer power head. With it being a chain saw you do not need to exert much force at all. What is difficult is the safety , and the fact that the tool is so long, and heavy. Before you do anything overhead get a hard hat. We had a friend who was trimming trees and was put in the hospital after a tree branch hit him in the head. Had he not been wearing a hard hat, it would have killed him.

i have a hand operated pole saw, that just has a clipper(very sharp and powerful, easily cuts 2'' limbs, and bigger, if they will fit in the clipper, and then there is like a handsaw blade at the end that can cut down bigger things. i've used it a lot, and i'm just 13. it goes up really high. great tool thats about $40. get one the goes a little higher than you hink you'll need, though, because you'll proably see some branches up higher when you clear the lower ones.

Nice tool in the hands of a professional. It can be a very dangerous tool. Better to use a pole saw that is hand operated.

not difficult to use and can cut larger limbs and you don't have to use leveage , just the weight of the saw will work, try it you;ll like it and it's easy once you get the hang of it , easyer then climbing the tree
