I'm an American now living in Holland and while I'm aware of many customs that take place amongst the Dutch, I am unaware of what is done for teachers' birthdays! My daughter is in Group 1 and her teacher's birthday is soon. The Groepmoeders are planning a surprise party for her and have sent home a note asking the children to bring a present for her.
What kind of gifts are given to teachers, especially those teaching Group 1 and 2?
I need answers ASAP because I just got the letter today and the party is on Wednesday, 14 March!!!!

Even though the Dutch thoroughly enjoy their wine, I don't think it would be appropriate or age related for a 4 year old child to give her teacher a bottle of wine. That's the key here... my daughter is only 4 years old.

A box of chocolates and flowers or plants (spring flowers such as tulips, hyacinths etc.) are always highly appreciated. You could also think of something like a nice body-lotion or shower-cream. A "glossy" magazine such as Elle or a good magazine about food could also be a good idea or maybe something 'Easter-ish': decoration, a chocolat Easter bunny, chocolate Easter eggs etc.

Hi!
A nice book ("de Vliegeraar" seems to be a good book everyone is reading nowadays) or a gift certificate from a bookstore.
Something nice from the Body Shop or Douglas or Etos also always works, like some bathstuff or bodylotion. They also have some cute giftpackages most of the time.
A "V.V.V. Irischeque" giftcertificate is also a good choice, she can go most bookstores, restaurants and other places with it (buy this at the ANWB-store).
