If there are any career counselors or Civil Engineers that know the field very well, I was wondering if you could answer my question. I want to know how far you can take your BS without any lisences afterwards? I would assume there has to be areas in the field where the basic engineering experience can play a role in different fields than just looking at project designs.

So I guess what I'm looking for are different positions that are out there for someone with a BS in civil engineering and how to get started in them and how to find out about them.
Thanks!

If you are going to get a job with a State agency (DOT, DEQ) you will find your opportunity limited.

If you get a job with a consulting company (a large engineering firm) you will need a PE to make the grade.

You can, however, land a job and never be a PE. It will cost you $$$ for the rest of your life - depending on your career path.

I have worked for a utility company-they hire engineers and many of them are not PEs. They work as hard as the PEs for less pay.

It is a matter of your priorities. You can work as an engineer in some factory, or office environment. But if you apply your education in the field, lacking a PE will cost you opportunity and $$$. Lots of $$$$ (to the tune of $15K per year for the rest of your life).
