Starter went out on my 1999 chrysler 300m, is it something fairly easy I can do myself or do I definately need to take it in? Any idea how much it will be if I take it in or just for the part??

They are available for $100-200. The link below will get you to a number of choices.

As for how hard they are to install, I'm not familiar with the 300M. But on my Mercedes E320, it was a daunting job, involving dropping the entire exhaust system and removing the belly pan. If Mercedes had a shot at screwing up the design, you're best off sending it to the shop and paying the very high cost.

On most other cars, it's a knucklebuster, but not beyond what you would tackle under a shade tree.

I haven't had any experience with this model car, but it shouldn't be too much of a job. Disconnect your battery cables from the battery and arrange them so they don't touch the terminals. If you have some mechanical experience and the proper size tools, you should be able to disconnect the wires from the starter and remove it. There should be two or three bolts holding it on.
Take the dead starter to the parts store for a core (they usually have a "core charge) so you don't have to pay so much money.
I am not sure how much a starter would be for this car, but be ready for about $75.00. You may get it for less. A quality rebuilt starter is as good or even better than a new one as some of the rebuilt ones have a lifetime guarantee.

prices i cant help u with bc i dont know where you are located but starters are fairly easy depending on where they are on your engine they are only a few bolts a few wires and sometimes a shim. watch how you take it off and replace it the same way. if it is buried under a lot you are better off taking it into a shop.

if you haven't done it before you might want to take it in. but if you have just buy the starter and put it in. a brand new starter cost at the most $200. if you get a after market starter it should only cost about anywhere form $50. to $100. it also depends where you buy on from.

the starter died on my el camino and it cost me 40 bucks to change it myself.
you should only have to pull two bolts, the battery cable going to the starter, and the signal wire and you're ready to replace if i remember the way 300m starters hook up
