I may not personally believe what the liberal media is trying to shove down my throat about global warming, but here's MY question for all of you enthusiasts.
I've heard a lot of talk about a very simple solution to the problem....fluorescent lightbulbs. How many of you are using only fluorescent lightbulbs in your homes? If not, aren't you missing out on an opportunity to help your own cause? AND doesn't that imply YOU are creating global warming as we speak?
I may not purchase them because they'll stop global warming...I don't believe global warming is the big issue y'all are trying to tell me it is. If nothing else, I'd buy them because they last longer and save me money. Just something to think about.

I too do not buy into the global warming issue. Many different people have proven there are not enough facts to support global warming.

Another interesting thought on the fluorescent lightbulbs. Although they will reduce power plant emissions, the lightbulbs contain mercury. So if an individual does not dispose of them properly (and I'm guessing most people won't), then there will be an increased risk of pollution reaching water supplies. So even though one pollution will be reduced, another is increased.

Trouble Maker,

You've got to be kidding. What scientists are saying that we are heading for a global catastrophe? Who says that we have never had CO2 above 300 ppm before? There's been no warming on this scale at any time in the last 500,000 years? According to whom?

This attached story about the greenland ice cores says that the evidence suggests a 5 degree celsius temperature rise in a 50 year period around 115,000 years ago? Were there humans dumpding CO2 into the atmosphere then? NO. We have just seen a 0.6 deg C rise in the last hundred years, compare that to 5 degrees in 50 years.

The earth has never seen CO2 greater than 300 ppm until now? Also not true. CO2 has been much greater than current levels for most of earths history. See that attached chart showing CO2 over 2000ppm.

This is the problem with global warming proponents. They state things which are obviously not true while trying to create a panic. They're trying to impose a "we must act now or else the world is going to end" belief, when the warming we are currently seeing is much smaller and slower than has been seen in the recent past. If they were willing to be more honest about the situation, they might be able to get people to be willing to listen.

Using these alternative low energy bulbs makes sense and many people are beginning to switch over . This is but one step in slowing global warming .

There is not one scientist who can state that the data is wrong . That we are not headed for a global catastrophe in the near future .

For the first time in history as far back as we can check carbon levels have neer been above 300 parts per million and as the carbon levels rise so do the temperatures . There is a lag time of a few years with carbon levels way above any norm in the past and a rise in temperature is sure to follow .

Just how hot it is going to get in the next ten years is alarming according to some predictions .
People who say Greenland was green recently are not being honest . Yes when the winter Ice melted away the land was very green . But 90% of Greenland has been covered in Ice for the last 650,000 years of documented Ice cores . This was long before man appeared on planet earth .

Hell we have only got recorded information on the last 3000 years or so and some hieroglyphics in the ancient tombs of the Egyptians and a cave or two around the globe .

We really only know have come to keep proper records on events that occur and many people are not sure about who killed Kennedy . Are we Sure about Jesus 2000 years is a long time . Do we really know anything .

Science has proven that we will be warming and we can all see it . Nothing on this scale has occurred in recent times and by that I mean in the last 500,000 years .
So get out your shovels and begin to dig a hole in the ground if you want to make it .
How high sea levels will be is no big mystery to the number crunchers .
Just look at the hundreds of pacific Islands that are going under and the predicted future for many locations around the globe .

I fail to see whats not to believe about global warming . Yes we can not blame exxon mobile for all of it . or the ford motor company or con Edison but we can say that human activity is a cause of the major increase in increased carbon in our atmosphere no joke here at all ..... .
We have caused the rise and must reverse it some how before we all cook .

I use flourescent light bulbs, and I don't "believe in" global warming. That makes it sound like a religion.
I agree that it's happening, and I have known about it since long before it was a popular media subject. What percentage of climate scientists have to agree before you're convinced? 95? 98? 99? 100?

A few scientists may disagree about it, but it's pretty close to unanimous. Evidence continues to pile up every year.

Everyone in America has some responsibility for creating the carbon emissions that heat the earth. We all create global warming simply by driving, using electric power, even riding a bus. We both used electricity to make these posts. The question is, who is doing anything about it. I do what I can.

First, yes I use flourescent bulbs, second they're only a part of the solution but every bit helps, I've also spent a lot of time sealing and insulating my house, and it has made a huge difference in comfort and in heating bills. I wash my clothes in cold water and I've put a clothes line outside so I don't have to use the dryer so much. I also do everything I can to use my car as little as possible and that has made a difference as well.
The one thing I noticed above all is that once you decide to start doing these things and use your head about how to do them it's really not that much of an inconvenience or difficult to do. I do have a question for you though, what if you and the people who think like you are wrong? and we could have done something about this but didn't, because we didn't "believe" it we're talking about the habitability of this planet, it that something you really want to screw around with just to make things a little more convenient for yourself?

Yes, I use them. And I check my tire pressure every couple weeks, drive moderately, and even walk when I can. It's not enough, but it's a start.

More importantly, though, I'd like to address your notion that global warming is a "liberal" idea. If this it true, then Bush, McCain, Giuliani, and even Sam Brownback must all be liberals, because all of these Republicans have publically stated that global warming is happening and that it's caused by humans.

Perhaps it's time we stopped viewing this as a liberal vs. conservative issue.

I do not believe in man made global warming but I try to do my part each day to minimize my impact on the earths's atmosphere. As an example when I feel a bout of flatulence coming on I try to light those farts on Liberals. This accomplishes two things:
First it eliminates the methane that would escape into the earth's atmosphere and secondly it makes the Liberals smell a little better.

Well there were a lot of people thought the sun revolved around the earth or the earth is flat, even when smarter people tried to tell them the truth. But You can't argue with a closed mind. I enjoy a good debate with people from different points of view, but are in the quest of knowledge. It pointless to discuss issues with zealot.

As long as Al Gore can fly in a jet and his personal residence uses more energy in a day than I use in a month then I will continue to drive my truck and use regular light bulbs.
