It's probably because they don't want to claim responsibility.

Today we live in a world where political correctness is paramount. If you even mention slavery you'll be done for 'inciting racial hatred', so in politics it's easier to just avoid the issue instead of confronting it.

Basically, this world has gotten too soft, and we should all be mature enough to get along!

Who would you have the apology sent to? I will not be apologising for something that ended in the UK 200 years ago.

Do you have any idea what the conditions were like for the working population of this country. No voting rights, no right to withdraw labour, living in abject poverty at the whim of the land owner. We still had an autocratic King for goodness sake. There was very little industry at this stage as most lived in the county on the land Sound familiar.

A few did get rich from this disgusting and abhorrent trade but lets be clear 99% of the population could do nothing about it and certainly have nothing to be sorry for. We were as much victims of the times as were the unfortunates sold by their own people, and Arabs into slavery. lets get on with life and make a difference to our time not worry about the uncontrollable actions of our great great great Etc Grandfathers

I am a Scot, half the population of the Highlands was forced onto ships and sent to the Americas in the Highland clearances when the land owners wanted the land for sheep, who were seen as more valuble than the people. We survived and do not need or want I am sure empty meaning words from people who had no influences and more importantly no control of events that took place 200 years ago

Slaves ancesters are very lucky and they should thank us whites for taking them from Africa and letting them become educated and enjoy are white technology education etc. Your question is moronic do you know anything about history most people were slaves children worked in mines and only a select few had slaves. If the slaves are unhappy I am sure they can go back to Africa and live in the backwards society they have come from maybe there moronic tribe culture ( gangs ) is considered cool out there as here it is a annoying and a bit inferior. Tho saying that Martin Luther King is one of the greatest men of all time I wish blacks used him as a role model instead of these hip hop morons who say the N word all the time. It is time blacks stopped playing the victim as everyone else who comes to America and the U.K. seems to prosper look at Asians why arn`t blacks trying to be doctors instead of dealers.

How in the Hell can you give a meaningfull apology for something somebody did to somebody a long time ago.
At one time or another ALL of our ancesters were inslaved by somebody or inslaved some one.
We're better than that now,it's time to let it drop.
Soon as you apologise, you accept guilt, next comes the law suite and you've accepted responsibility.

Because once you open that can of worms, where do you stop? Are the governments of central and west Africa going to apologise for their part in the 'triangular trade'? Are the governments of North Africa going to apologise for the activity of the Barbary slave traders who raided Europe for so many centuries?

Sooner or later, you just have to consign things to history.

slavery may have been a blessing in disguise, because they enslaved themselves, also trible warfare and outher bad things they got up to, when god punishes people he sends outher nations to subject his target, like when the israelites turn their back on their god they loose everything he gave them, when they return to him he gives it them back, the african new nothing of god, the desendants of the slaves were blessed by more knowledge than they would have outherwise had, and more oppertunity for greatness, the poor black mans lot is just the same as the poor white mans lot,
but better than a poor blackman in africa, so even the poor are better of in the west. if the black african pays close attention to brits and the u.s. he will see they are going through a process of modern day enslavement and loss of freedom, especialy britain because the day of the gentile is over.

You also forgot the tribes that sold them into slavery. Let 's not leave anyone out here. I never had slaves, so why should I apologize.

Here we go again...ONE MORE TIME....There is no one left to make apology too. They are all dead and those of us on this earth now had nothing to do with slavery. So whats to gain by apologizing for something you didn't do? Kinda like saying your guilty but you didn't do it...Get a grip,It just isn't necessary.

What would be gained? Is there anyone who doesn't know that it was wrong? It seemed acceptable at the time or they wouldn't have done it. But in hindsight we now know it wasn't. Who would you appologise to? I'll bet you can tell us who won the game on Monday morning, can't you? Why didn't you tell us on Friday?

Those people died hundreds of years ago.
How can they apologize?
The slaves died hundreds of years ago.
How can they accept an apology?
(I was a slave for years of the Democrat Party. I escaped. But you have to want to.)
